Thank you for visiting to find out more about us. Here you can meet the people who make up Enchanted Passage, and find out how you can become part of our story!
Sandy has spent the last 30 plus years as a licensed mental health counselor working with adolescents and families. She has spent a lifetime as an avid and passionate reader. Some of her lifetime favorite novels that still bring joy are Jane Eyre and the Lord of the Rings Series. She is passionate about increasing a love of literature in young people. Sandy passed her love of reading on to her daughter, Kimberly, at a young age as they discovered the wonder and escape that comes in the pages of a good book.
Kimberly has spent her life reading as much as possible. In 2001, she became an elementary teacher and spent the next almost 20 years in classrooms, both in the United States and abroad. Before opening Enchanted Passage, she finished her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. She loves to find the perfect book for people when they come in to visit. Her daughter, Kristiana, is inheriting a love of books, reading and parties from her mother and grandmother.
is to bring books to life and make reading a fun and enjoyable experience so that children develop a love of reading that will last a lifetime, thus creating a community of more literate individuals.
The dream of Enchanted Passage was one that started long ago. Owners, Kim and Sandy, had a vision of a children's bookstore where people could gather for parties and events, or just to cozy up with a warm drink and a good book. They had aspirations to bring education and literacy skills to children, teachers, parents/guardians and others within their community and beyond. However, it was just a dream that lay dormant as life moved in different directions.
In 2015, Kimberly's daughter, Kristiana Grace, was born at 24 weeks weighing just over 1 lb. As Kristiana grew, and it became clear that she was a very special but complex child, Sandy and Kim realized that change was coming, both out of necessity and a desire to create a safe and happy environment for Kristiana. And so, they began to brainstorm and the ember of Enchanted Passage grew brighter.
In October of 2016, Sandy and Kim found the perfect location to build their dream bookstore. It was a beautiful, and eye-catching, salmon pink house that was built in 1824. It had a charming maze of rooms that previously housed Vaillancourt Folk Art for 30 years. Sandy and Kim channeled their separate strengths, along with their shared love of literature and a desire to increase a love of literacy among children and teens, and began the process of transforming the house into a magical bookstore. In a matter of a few short months, they, (along with their families, friends and supporters) worked tirelessly to open the doors on December 1, 2016, just in time for their first Sutton Chain of Lights event.
In addition to carefully curated children's, young adult and adult fiction and non-fiction books, Enchanted Passage offers unique gifts, custom arts, and quality educational toys. They also hold a variety of events for all ages including parties, scouting events, art workshops, paint nights, author events and more. Tips for fostering a lifelong love of reading
Reading aloud to children at an early age is the most effective way to help them expand their vocabulary and recognize written words. Reading also stimulates a child's imagination and expands his or her understanding of the world.
There are many ways to include reading in all stages of childhood. When children focus on literacy activities they enjoy, reading will be seen as a treat, not a chore. Follow these tips at home:
Literacy counts from day one and lays the foundation for a child's success in school and in life. ~ Dr. Kirk Panneton – Regional executive and medical director
Hi Booklovers! My name is Jen. As a former PreK and Kindergarten teacher I have a passion for children's literature. I have seen first hand the impact books make in the lives of children and it never ceases to amaze me. As a child, one of my favorite things to do was to go to the library, find a cozy corner and dive into a good book, usually about animals.
As a child, my favorite books were, Oh, the Places You'll Go, Go Dog Go, and The Outsiders. Now-a-days you can usually find me sitting in my garden with a good mystery enjoying the sunshine while the birds chirp and the bees buzz.
I have so many favorite books including Dear Girl by Amy Krauss Rosenthal, The Liar's Girl by Catherine Howard, and anything by Kate Morton or Paula Brackston. Come in and I'll help you find just the right book for you or the little ones in your life!
Hi! My name is Sydney. I just graduated from Sutton High School. I have been very involved in gymnastics my whole life, both as a gymnast and a coach.
I have always loved working with children and plans to attend college for Elementary Education.
My favorite books are: Wonder - RJ Palacio
Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life - Wendy Mass
The Glass Castle - Jeanette Walls
Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
Come visit me and do a craft or chat about a good book!
